London is calling again! 5 June 2016

5 June 2016.

H was near the tail end of her med school as a freshie and we were bound to London to see the kid move to her new place. Be gone! That dirty, tiny shared room in Ramsay Hall! It was a house along Arlington Rd that was waiting, with its equally huge garden and cottage.

To  help the kid with her first major move, we especially chose to stay at an apartment at 46 Maple St which was a stone’s throw from the hall. I got it from booking.com and had the unfortunate experience of being billed £1519 just a day after confirmation of the place, a good 6 months into our short tenancy.

H had earlier checked in on our behalf and did loads of laundry to take advantage of the washer in the apartment. We met way past dinner time at Warren St Station, totally hungry and tired. A year in London had smoothed H around the edges and she looked comfortable in a woolen sweater. Just like a student.

The smallish apartment though small had 2 bedrooms, so that H can be away from her roommate and spend nights with us. It was an extravagance but for that kid, it wasn’t too much. There was much to catch up but we were too bushed. Besides, the kid needed to be back at the hall for the night and so the 2 of us spent the first night in London in a fancy apartment with 2 bedrooms, totally conked out.
